Rebecca R This film met my low expectations and it’s bad even by Hallmark Christmas movie standards. The jokes are consistently unfunny, ranging from immature ones like poop jokes apparently aimed at children to childish, awkward jokes about bedroom behavior and a clothes-ripping-revealing-boobs-in-public-joke. Then, they’ll throw in moments where a character uses inappropriate language in front of a child, followed by “oops, sorry kids” reactions, which seem misplaced for any audience. To make up for the lack of actual adult humor, the movie uses “f***” about thirty times, even dedicating a whole joke to it, which feels forced and excessive by the end. The one slight positive is the variety of settings, which adds some unpredictability, but it doesn't do much to improve the story. The leads' plan to avoid being pitied by their families makes little sense—they admit right away they’re not romantically interested in each other, even though fake dating would have solved their problems. Plus, their first holiday together is spent at a club, with none of the family they’re trying to avoid/impress? present, except one basically irrelevant character. In the end, the film feels like a weak attempt at adult humor and offers little to enjoy. Whether it’s better or worse for failing at its own genre is debatable, but watching it was no fun.
